ADP released its December Employment Report with an unexpected increase of 297,000 employed individuals in the private sector while expectations had been ~100,000. Below are two charts excerpted from the report and the link for the press release. The American Staffing Association has been reporting higher than normal temporary staffing for this period in a recovery which I estimated some months ago would result in increased employment levels as the recovery moved forward. Today’s ADP report is the first report to indicate that this is what is likely happening. Charts numbered 2&3 show that both Goods-Producing and Service-Providing are showing sharp increases.
