Total N. American rail traffic jumped to 685k cars last week, only 2k cars off the highest levels of the year. Interesting numbers for the week were strength in forest products and auto’s with both well above both the 4-week rolling average and quarter to date average. All the major carrierers saw gains ( $KSU $UNP $CSX $NSF )
This is the strongest across the board week have seen in a while as there was no weakness anywhere in the report. If we based what we see of the economy off t\his, should the trend continue then we might begin to think we have put the malaise from most of Q2 behind us. As usual we’ll have to keep an eye in the coming weeks but this reports leaves little to be upset about.
